The stunning Atlantic coast with its popular seaside resorts such as Royan and Saint-Georges-de-Didonne and its miles upon miles of breathtaking sandy beaches, is an easy two hour drive away. Popular with guests is the sheltered bay of Meschers-sur-Gironde, with its fine sandy beach, backed by pine forests. Whilst there, an exploration of the fascinating troglodyte caves is a must, as well as a delicious meal in one of the port’s seafood restaurants. Visits to the islands of the Charente Maritime are also wonderful ways to spend days out, the largest being Ile d’Oléron and Ile de Ré, not forgetting their smaller neighbours Ile d’Aix and Ile Madame. Finally, be sure to visit La Rochelle and of course the vibrant city of Bordeaux, both a little over 1 hour 40 min away.
