Local Heritage

Make sure that you explore the rich local heritage of the area with its many beautiful towns and villages, such as Cognac or Jonzac or the medieval town of Pons, with its imposing Donjon. Visit some of the listed historical sites, such as the arch of Germanicus and the Gallo-Roman amphitheatre in Saintes or take a trip to the beautiful Fontdouce Abbey, founded in 1111. Equally impressive are the Romanesque churches, five of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as the breathtaking Eglise Sainte-Radegonde de Talmont. Of course a visit to the region would not be complete without taking in one of France’s fine chateaux, such as the nearby Chateau de la Rochefoucauld or Chateau de la Roche Courbon.
